A classic Indian staple, our Plain Tandoori Roti is a soft, unleavened bread cooked to perfection in the tandoor oven. Simple yet satisfying, it's the perfect accompaniment to your favorite dishes
:
500 grams whole wheat flour
Water (as needed for kneading)
Salt (optional)
Ghee or butter for brushing (optional)
Instructions:
1. **Prepare the Dough:**
In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt (if using).
Gradually add water and knead the mixture to form a smooth and soft dough.
2. **Divide into Balls:**
Divide the dough into golf ball-sized portions.
3. **Roll Out the Rotis:**
Roll each portion into a round, flat disc using a rolling pin. Aim for a thickness of about 6-8 inches.
4. **Preheat the Tandoor or Oven:**
If you have a tandoor, preheat it to a high temperature. If using an oven, preheat it to the highest setting (usually around 475°F or 245°C).
5. **Cooking in Tandoor or Oven:**
Place the rolled roti on the hot surface. If using an oven, you can use a pizza stone or a baking sheet.
6. **Cook Each Side:**
Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side until you see bubbles forming. Flip the roti and cook the other side.
7. **Direct Flame Method (Optional):**
If you have a gas stove, you can also cook the roti directly over a low flame using tongs. Ensure that it puffs up and gets a golden-brown color on both sides.
8. **Brush with Ghee (Optional):**
For added flavor, you can brush the cooked roti with ghee or butter.
9. **Serve:**
Serve the plain tandoori roti hot with your favorite curries, gravies, or side dishes.
Enjoy your homemade plain tandoori roti!
