A classic favorite, our Plain Naan is a soft, freshly baked Indian bread, perfect for scooping up your favorite curries or enjoying on its own. Simple yet satisfying
:
500 grams all-purpose flour (maida)
5 grams sugar
6 grams active dry yeast
5 grams salt
4 grams baking soda
30 gramss Curd (Dahi)
30 ml refined oil
Warm water (as needed)
Butter for brushing (optional)
Chopped cilantro for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
1. **Activate the Yeast:**
In a small bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water.
Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water, and let it sit for 510 minutes until it becomes frothy.
2. **Prepare the Dough:**
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, baking soda, Curd (Dahi), and oil.
Add the activated yeast mixture and mix to form a dough.
If needed, add warm water gradually to make a soft and smooth dough.
3. **Knead the Dough:**
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes elastic.
4. **Let it Rise:**
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 12 hours, or until it doubles in size.
5. **Preheat the Oven:**
Preheat your oven to the highest temperature (usually around 475°F or 245°C) or use a pizza stone if you have one.
6. **Divide and Shape:**
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal-sized balls.
Roll each ball into an oval or round shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
7. **Bake:**
If using a pizza stone, place the rolled naan directly on the stone. Otherwise, place them on a baking sheet.
Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes or until the naan puffs up and gets golden brown spots.
8. **Optional:**
Brush the hot naan with butter and sprinkle chopped cilantro on top if desired.
9. **Serve:**
Serve plain naan warm with your favorite curries or use it to scoop up dips and sauces.
Enjoy your homemade Plain Naan!
